One of the big changes that developer Shifty Jelly has made was to re-write large portions of the app in Apple’s Swift programming language. Because of this, Casts has seen substantial stability improvements, along with faster performance.

On the iPad, Pocket Casts now supports Split View and Slide Over , letting you control your podcast listening while you do other things. For video podcasts, the app has also added support for picture-in-picture, letting the video window float in the foreground of your display as you use other apps.

There are other improvements as well. Pocket Casts now has its own dark mode, and a dedicated download section. Your Up Next list is now easier to manage, episodes can now be filtered by date, and iPhone 6s owners can now make use of 3D Touch shortcuts on the app’s icon.

Pocket Casts 6.0 is a free update for those who owned the previous version, and can be found on the App Store now.
